When a client asks for an AI-detection guarantee
No detector can certify a piece as human-written. Here is language for the conversation that doesn’t overpromise.
What you can’t promise
No detector, Litimus included, can certify with certainty that a piece was written by a human — that isn’t a limitation unique to one tool, it is a limit of the underlying approach across the industry. Be wary of any brief that treats a score as something a freelancer can guarantee.
What you can promise
That you ran a check before delivery, and can show the report. That your own process — notes, drafts, research — exists and can be shared if asked. That you didn’t use an undisclosed generation tool, if that is the actual policy you agreed to.
Put it in writing once
A short line in your contract or intake email saves having the same conversation every project — something like: “I run submitted work through an AI detector before delivery and can share the report; no detector can certify authorship with certainty, and I don’t claim otherwise.”
If a score comes back high on your own writing
Formulaic briefs — SEO listicles, structured product copy — can read as templated to any statistical detector with no AI involved. That is worth explaining to a client before it becomes a dispute, not after. See using a detector in your edit pass for how to read a borderline result yourself first.
